Mission & History

Carboplasty is born out of my personal journey. When I was in training, I went to India to visit my grandfather who at that time was 90 years old. He was a lifelong scholar and athlete. Field hockey injury in his twenties to his knee eventually lead the knee to become severely arthritic. At age 90 no one wanted to replace his knee. He died one year later from being immobile. I was determined at that time to come up with a solution that was minimally invasive that can be done on anyone of any age that was

effective with very low morbidity that could reduce dependence on total and partial knee replacements.

When I started my own practice as Sports Medicine specialist at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York a few years later I had flexibility to try to invent. During one of my Central Park runs I came up with the idea of injecting stem cells where the cartilage and bone meet called the bone chondral interface. It was to me like putting fertilizer under the roots of the tree.

Off I went to Wall Street where I was lucky to find a group of extremely bright engineers who helped me develop the carboplasty instruments that cause minimal trauma to the bone while extracting the bone marrow aspirate and delivering it to the bone chondral interface. Once I had these instruments developed, I went back to India where my cousin helped me do a clinical trial on effectiveness of carboplasty on knee arthritis. The results were simply astonishing.

After I tore my ACL which my colleague fixed with use of stem cells derived from umbilical cord and I discovered how powerful these cells are that bioenhanced carboplasty and muse carboplasty was born which is second and third generation of carboplasty. It is my hope that carboplasty will vastly decrease need for total joint replacements while eliminating pain and restoring mobility globally. Carboplasty is simple, effective 15-minute outpatient procedure with very little downtime and without morbidity that comes with total knee replacements.
